College Football

Yesterday we went to the last home football game as students in the muss. it was pretty sad, especially since we stood in the freezing rain for four hours as the utes played the crappiest game they’ve played all season. why do they do that to us? but it was a fun season and we’re hoping if we’re still in salt lake next year to get season tickets in the north end zone :)

being from southern california, i was raised a usc fan, and i’m really happy i was. that is the best school and team to root for. i love everything about the trojans. i loved walking around campus on game day and going to the huge tailgates and getting pumped for the game every saturday. i loved when traveler and tommy would do a lap around the field after every touchdown. and when you’re at a usc game, everyone around you is your family as you cheer on the trojans. i have never stopped loving and cheering for them. (and when they played at the u this year, i went and sat in the usc section by myself. and made some great friends while over there :)

when i moved to salt lake city three years ago, i expected that i would probably become a fan of the university of utah. and i did. my roommate went to school there so we all started going to games together. and they were fun and i loved the atmosphere of utah football. so i became a utah fan. the past two years i have been to almost every home game. i have rooted for the utes while also rooting for the trojans. which is unheard of since they’re in the same conference. but what am i supposed to do? i have loyalties to both teams so i’m going to hope they both come out on top. i got a lot of backlash for that at first but i think people have accepted it now (or they just don’t care). when the utes play the trojans, though, i will always root for usc to win. because as cheesy as it is, my blood runs cardinal and gold. i was born that way (as lady gaga would say).

now, i’m not the kind of football fan who will cry about someone talking smack about my team. i think sports are about getting into arguments and hating any team that isn’t your own. every sports fan knows that. so anyone who tries to pretend they don’t “hate” their rival because there must be “nice people there” is just lying and trying to make them and their team seem more noble. amiright?

but anyway i’m sad to say goodbye to the muss, one of the best student sections in the nation. me and riley have been cheering the utes on together from the muss since before we were dating! it’s been real.

over and out.
