portfolio event
thursday night was my big portfolio event! it was such a blast! i actually did my hair and makeup for the first time in way too long haha. it was so much fun to finally display what i’ve been working on for so long and to see all of my classmates’ hard work too! it was also a little bittersweet because it means that it’s all over! what do we do now?! it’s gonna be weird not to be always working in something. but also really nice because now we have our lives back ;)
on wednesday night, we brought our displays to my school to set up. as i walked around, looking at everybody’s i started panicking because they were all so good and mine looked so empty. everyone had things under their tables and books and plants on their tables. so me and riley ran to lowes and target to try to figure something out last minute. riley was so good at helping me and calming me down. we found a basket in the bathroom section and got some plants from lowes and put them into the basket and it turned out so great! i guess that’s the life of a designer, huh? ;) anyway, i was still feeling unsure about mine but thursday morning when riley dropped me off at school he told me, “don’t say anything bad about your portfolio today. because it’s really good.” wow. so i just remembered that all day and it made me fell much more confident. i love that boy of mine!
^^^here are a few of my favorite displays. i’m so mad that i didn’t get more pictures of everybody’s! what was i thinking?! but everyone did so good! i was so impressed. and it was amazing how different everyone’s was. they each reflected each person’s design style. the top two won first place commercial and first place residential. the bottom left won second place commercial. i think everyone deserved an award!
^^^here’s my display. i won second place residential and student choice!! i could not believe it!! i did not see that coming at all. it made me so happy that my hard work was received and recognized. i love how my portfolio turned out. and i am actually a little sad that it’s all over. it’s crazy that allll of that work was for just one night. haha! but it was worth it. all night i just kept saying to riley, “can you believe it?! wow. can you believe it?!”
^^^i was so happy to see all of my friends who graduated last year in the program. they are all so great and so cute! jenn there on the left in the stripes (matching my display ;) is the one who helped me a lot with my project. she also just got a job at VCBO in the department that is designing the rome, italy temple!!! how amazing is that?!
^^^maddie, jaimee, and shauntae. some of the sweetest classmates and friends ever.
^^^these amazing girls were in the IIDA presidency with me this year and it has been such a blast with them. i have learned so much from them and it has been such a blessing to have their support. i would have been such a loner this year without them! ha! seriously.
^^^after the big event, we went home for some dinner then went out to cheesecake factory for some dessert. (had to get a picture of riley’s snazzy new shoes). we used to do that all the time but haven’t in a long time because we haven’t had the time! we were celebrating portfolio being over, me getting some awards, and being married for 8 months! wow!! also, i didn’t get a stinking picture with riley at the event! i can’t believe myself. this project was just as much riley’s as it was mine. he had to suffer through it with me and he was such a trooper. i am so so grateful for him and all he did to help me!
